Cub Scouts take part in Activity Weekend

39 Cub Scouts from across the entire District took part in the Scout taster weekend at Hesley Wood camp site. They undertook a number of bases like fire lighting, backwoods cooking, knotting and helping to build a pioneering project. The cubs made a small ballista out of broom handles then made one from large poles; they fired water bombs from both. A great weekend was had by all.

Cub Scouts Take Part in the District Cooking Competition

Four teams of Cub Scouts from around the District took part in the District Cub Cooking Competition. The teams had to bring along a main course and cook it on the cookers provided; then prepare a dessert from the ingredients and recipe cards available. Alongside this, a trading competition was taking place to se who could make the most money by purchasing items to make table decorations etc and then “selling” them back to the bank for a profit.

Cub Scout Sixers Weekend

As part of the 100 year celebrations for Scouts, we ran a special Sixers’ Weekend for Cub Scout Sixers, Seconds and those who will be moving to the Scout section by Christmas.

The weekend was a great success with 29 Cubs from 5 packs taking part. This gave us six patrols and they enjoyed making fires and cooking for themselves as well as covering themselves in mud. We are looking to see if this can becoma an annual event to give Cub Scouts the opportunity of experiencing a little of Scouts before they go up and they get to start their Zodiac Award.

Silkstone Cub Scout’s Narrow Boat Trip – December 2006

The Cub Scouts went on a narrow boat to experience life on the canals. They operated the locks and had a go at piloting the boat (but had to wear the captain’s hat to undertake that task). With all the excitement they discovered a spider and were mesmorised as it spun it’s web before them. A great day, with thanks to Ross.

The 2007 Camp will take place later in the year, see diary dates for further information.

The 2006 Cubantics for Cub Scouts in the Yorkshire Districts was held at Hesley Wood Scout Camp. Hundreds of Cub Scouts from all over the area enjoyed the activities that were put on for them. The theme was based around the circus and they had the opportunity of trying out circus skills, jousting on slippery poles, swinging across alligator infested rivers (well the alligators were full of hot air!!) as well as some quiter games. We look forward to next years event.

Silkstone Cub Scout’s Night Walk

On 24 March 16 Cub Scouts finally got to set off on the walk that had been planned weeks before, but inclement weather precluded it happening. They set off in the fog and rain from Silkstone HQ and walked on the footpaths alongside Hoylandswaine hill and over the tops to arrive at Penistone HQ tired but happy. They then set up their tents in the building and talked and made noises to the early hours (shouldn’t they want to sleep after a walk like that?). After breakfast they were collected by their parents ready for the day ahead.
