Explorer Scouts in the Snow Explorer Scouts in the Snow
Explorer Scouts from the Barbarian unit spent a weekend in the Southern Peak district, clearing hawthorne bushes in the snow.
They assisted the national park rangers, improving the wildlife habitat in an area of special interest near Hartington, but were unable to complete the project due to arrival on further heavy overnight snow.

A new form of pondlife has been sighted in the Peak District

New Pondlife Discovered Mud Glorious MudCan we go back in the pond now?

Barugh scouts and Barbarian explorer scouts spent a week at the National Parks residential centre, Marsh Farm near Buxton, clearing out the accumulated silt from a dew pond, safely removing wild-flowers for re-use.
After filling a trailer several times, they located some blue and red mud-dwellers (see photos).
The pond is to be re-lined, refilled with water, and the flora and fauna returned before the spring.

Footpath repairs
Barbarian Explorer Scouts relax, having completed work on a footpath giving access to the cycle trail at Tissington in the Peak District National Park.

Working with park rangers, and spending the weekend at the volunters centre, Marsh farm near Leek, the Explorers from the Unit widened the path and improved the surface moving 16 tonnes of limestone chippings to the site.
